Question on Dividends. I have to enter values from box1 and box5. They are different. I get a message to review because of that. That is my question

Box 1 says $3080.76. Box 5 says 5037.86. TT is looking for 3080. I am asked to put both in.

IF that is what is on your 1099-DIV form, then that would appear to be an improper 1099-DIV.

Box 5 must be less than or equal to box 1a. Box 5 cannot be greater.

The total of all dividends issued are in box 1a, as sub-part of the box 1a value, some are subject to being 199A dividends.  Example:  Total dividends in box 1a is $3080.76 , of that, total perhaps maybe $50.37 of 199A box 5 dividends contributed to that total....or any value up to 3080.76 and no more.

(ANNNND...If any $$ are in box 1b, that value must be equal or lower than box 1a too)

Recheck what is actually on your paper 1099-DIV form they issued...if it remains the numbers you entered....then you need to talk to the issuer and see if they are issuing a corrected 1099-DIV form, and the values they will be using.
