What kind of error message are you seeing?
Erroneously calculating $5128 in additional taxes. One of your agents emailed me that there was mistake in software. Said calculations were correct in pro version.
Did you mean the RMD distribution from a 1099R? Are you getting a penalty for not taking the RMD? What code is in box 7 on the 1099R? After you enter the 1099R say the whole amount of that 1099R is the RMD.
1099R for RMD distribution box 7 checked. Spent 2 hours on phone enrolled agent who concluded error in software and said he would notify up-line of issue. Not resolved to date. I have no transactions that would cause additional taxes on schedule 2 line 8. I agree with the calculation of AGI, Deductions, taxable income and taxes but not other taxes. Agent said calculations were correct in his pro version of software. Thank you for your response.
You must have answered the RMD questions wrong. What did you enter for the RMD on each 1099R? Should only be the same amount as in box 1 on each 1099R not the total RMD for both. @dmertz
I am not sure I understand your question. I only have one 1099 related to RMD distribution entered the amount in box 1. Enrolled agent reviewed all my answers and found no problems with ansers.
Did you only get one 1099R? Or do you have another one?
I have another 1099 related to a small monthly pension. It has nothing to do with my IRA. I used the desk top version the last 4 years and never had this problem but was forced to use the online version this year. Fortunately have friend that has H & R Block desk top version and we entered my info and it calculated taxes accurately. If I don't resolve this soon he will file my return as I am due a refund and next year will use their software.
You have to say the pension has a RMD too. Say all of it is the RMD. If you are the age required to take a IRA or 401K RMD it will ask you if a pension is the RMD. Say yes. Anything your pension pays you is considered to be the RMD. Traditional pensions automatically fulfill the rules of an RMD. So for the RMD question put in the same amount as box 1.
Thank you. I think this solved problem the pension had the IRA RMD not the Pension RMD which was much less.
