It depends. If your son is Single, under the age of 65, and has total income greater than $10,350, he is required to file a Tax Return. If you claim your son as a Dependent, he would need to file if his total income was greater than $6,300.
Even if he isn't required to file a Tax Return, if there was any Federal Withholding or State Withholding, your son would want to file in order to get it refunded.
