My 1099-R form lists a capital gain of $12,189 and a taxable amount of $3,544. The gross distribution was #15,734. Intuit says this can't be right. What should I do?

This is from a life insurance policy that I stopped paying on.

well....15,734 - 3544 = 12,190

SO it's off by $1...probably due to rounding.

Try entering the taxable amount as 3,545

Anything in box 3 makes no sense for a distribution from a life insurance policy.  Are you sure that the $12,189 is in box 3 and not box 5 of the Form 1099-R?
