My 1099 B is missing the cost basis, what should I enter?

Can you contact you financial institute to get that information?   Do YOU have any records of when you bought these investments?  If you can't find this information, and must use $0, you will be taxed on your entire amount as capital gains.

Financial websites like Motley Fool or Google Finance or Yahoo!  Finance will also provide historical quote information for both stocks and indices.
