Line 5b should contain the taxable amount of your pension. Correct?

Why is line 5b on form 1040 bigger than my pension? Isn't it supposed to be the taxable amount?

Lines 5a and 5b show your Social Security --both the amount of the benefits and the taxable amount.

For pensions, etc look on lines 4a and 4b
