What are you seeing that says you have to pay it back? Where?
You say you had a child who was a "minor" for 2019. What do you mean by that? You only get stimulus money for a child who was under the age of 17. The stimulus checks follow the same rules as the child tax credit. You do not receive stimulus or child tax credit for a child older than 16.
Did you see the refund reduce when you entered the 1800 you did receive on the Stimulus screen? It started out by giving you the full 1800 again so the refund shown was too much. Then you entered that you already got the 1800.
Correct My daughter didn’t qualify. When I entered yes and the two amounts of the checks into TurboTax when it asked and hit continue my taxes owed went up 1800
It said did you receive your stimulus, I hit yes, then it asked for the two amounts, I entered and pressed continue. Instantly my owes in the left corner went up 1800
The program starts out by giving you the stimulus money---- but when you enter it all and the program progresses and it becomes clear that you did not qualify for the extra amount, it removes it. You did not really pay anything back---you just did not qualify to receive it.
Why didn’t I qualify? I thought everyone received one
You said you got the 1200 and 600. Did you get those checks? Then you already got it. Turbo Tax was trying to give it to you again.
How do I correct then?
Correct what? There is nothing to correct. You should have nothing on 1040 line 30 because you already got the stimulus payments. Your refund is right. You are not paying it back.
There is nothing to fix. If you were single with no dependent under the age of 17 then for your first stimulus you got $1200. Second stimulus was $600. That's it. That is all you get. You received both stimulus amounts. You do not get more unless Congress passes a third stimulus amount.
This is what I’m talking about what I owed before I completed the stimulus portion and then after
And.... again.....since you do not get more stimulus credit....your tax due went up. It started out by showing you a tax due amount that was giving you a credit that you actually already received. You do not get the $1800 credit twice.
I think you might need to talk to a customer support rep who can explain it to you in a live conversation.
