IRA Contribution (non-deductible)

I am making a non-deductible IRA contribution because I maxed out my 401k contribution.

Do I need to file any form with my tax return to show I am making the non-deductible contribution?

IRA Contribution (non-deductible)

Yes, you are required to file Form 8606 with your tax return to report the basis of your non-deductible IRA contribution.

  1. Open or continue your return
  2. In the search box, type ira contributions and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
  3. Select Traditional IRA
  4. Follow the screens to enter your IRA contribution

To check to see if Form 8606 is generated based on your entries:

  1. Go to Tax Tools >> Tools to open the Tools Center
  2. Click on Delete a form in the Tools Center
  3. Scroll down to locate the 8606 form (do NOT delete it)
