Part of of my 2018 IRA Distribution applies to my 2017 RMD that I deferred to Apr. 1 of 2018 and the rest applies to my 2018 RMD. how do I report this or not?

My RMD for 2018 is $33K. However the total distributions from my IRAs received in 2018 was $50K. The $17K difference was to satisfy my outstanding 2017 RMD that I was deferring up to Apr. 1, 2018: the year following the year (2017) in which I turned 70 1/2  and reported my initial RMD).

Turbo Tax options for me to select are:

  1. I received the full RMD (i.e, $50K) for 2018,  or
  2. I did not receive all the RMD for 2018.

If I chose # 2, the next drop done tells me to total RMD and the amount actually received so do I enter as follows:

  • RMD Amount: $33K
  • Actual Amount Received: $50K.

Or should I just chose option # 1?

Indicate that you received the full RMD.  You do not want TurboTax to prepare Form 5329 Part IX to report an excess accumulation.
