I contributed my max $6,500 for 2023 and am looking to begin contributing my max $7,000 for 2024, but do I have to add it after April for next years taxes?

No, you do not need to wait.

You can contribute before April 15th 2023 and apply it to tax year 2024.

Be sure to tell the bank it is for 2024.

It uses a calendar year so you could have contributed starting January 1.
