if box 2a on my 1099-R says unknow, what should I report in that box when filing?

If I leave it as zero, the system wants me to do a general or simple tax calculation. Does this need to be done or should I put the full amount as taxable in box 2a?

I think for unknown you leave box 2a Blank, not zero.
