I think the problem with the wrong amount on the 1040 in line 4a maybe because something is missing one the “Form 1099-R Summary”, which feeds to the “1040 Worksheet”. There is no line item in the “IRA Distribution”, boxes 1 – 5 on page 1 of the summary that directs “Gross Distribution” to line 4a like it does in the “Pension and Annuities” section, under Gross, line 25, “Gross distribution transferred to Form 1040 4a”! As prtaylor56 has indicated "the problem is caused by a broken link in the "1040 Wks." Just confirming.
why is my rmd not listed on line 4a.
The problem still exists today, 2/12/2022. The result of not transferring the IRAs to line 4a is that if the if you have QCDs TT thinks you don't have any IRAs and won't allow the QCD. Does anyone have a solution other than hand calculation?
@finman , this is an old thread that has nothing to do with what you are seeing. It applies only to the 2018 Form 1040 that combined IRAs and pensions onto a single pair of lines. TurboTax handles QCDs correctly by including the amount on 2021 Form 1040 line 4a, excluding it from line 4b and putting the "QCD" notation next to the line. If you aren't seeing that, it suggests that you haven't made all of the necessary entries to report a QCD (or the distribution does not qualify as a QCD) and TurboTax is treating the entire amount of IRA distributions as taxable, resulting in it correctly showing the total on line 4b and nothing on line 4a.
