Retirement tax questions

@finman , this is an old thread that has nothing to do with what you are seeing.  It applies only to the 2018 Form 1040 that combined IRAs and pensions onto a single pair of lines.  TurboTax handles QCDs correctly by including the amount on 2021 Form 1040 line 4a, excluding it from line 4b and putting the "QCD" notation next to the line.  If you aren't seeing that, it suggests that you haven't made all of the necessary entries to report a QCD (or the distribution does not qualify as a QCD) and TurboTax is treating the entire amount of IRA distributions as taxable, resulting in it correctly showing the total on line 4b and nothing on line 4a.
