I received a 1099-G from California for tax year 2022 with box 2 stating "State or Local Income Tax Refunds, Credits, or Offsets". What do I do with this?

Ive already filed federal and state taxes for 2023. Will I need an amended return for California?

You might not need to amend if you took the Standard Deduction.  A State Tax Refund is taxable if you itemized deductions on that prior year's federal return and took a deduction for state income taxes instead of the sale tax.  You got a deduction benefit for it so now you have to include it as income. If you took the standard deduction it is not taxable and you don't need to report it.

The Form 1099-G for tax year 2022 is reporting the state tax refund you received from your 2022 state tax return.

The state tax refund from 2022 would have been received during tax year 2023.  If you took the Standard Deduction on the 2022 federal tax return then you do not have to report the 2022 state tax refund on the 2023 federal tax return.

There is nothing for you to amend on the California tax return.
