Can you clarify your question?

What state are you working on?

The State of Maine.

I have studied the worksheet for the Pension Income Deduction but cannot figure out where is get the amounts and where they go on the form. I don’t ever remember having to do this in the past years through TurboTax.

 Thanks, Brian

I’m not sure what I am supposed to enter in the State section called Pension Income Deduction?

"For tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2016, the benefits received under a military retirement plan, including survivor benefits, are fully exempt from Maine income tax.

In addition, you and your spouse may each deduct up to $10,000 of pension income that is included in federal adjusted gross income. The $10,000 cap must be reduced by all taxable and nontaxable social security and railroad retirement benefits received." ( What is the Pension Benefits Income Deduction?)

Please follow these steps to enter the pension deduction during the Maine state interview:

  1. Select "State"
  2. Continue through the questions until the "Retirement Income and Contributions" screen and select "yes" to "Did you receive retirement or pension income in 2021
  3. Select all others that apply and click "continue"
  4. Enter your non-military pension income from your Form 1099-R on the "Pension Income Deduction" screen (or Military Pension Income if applicable).
