The IRS Form 1040-SR and the Form 1040 are exactly the same form.  Only the SR has a larger typeface for easier reading.

A 1040  or 1040SR is the tax return form you prepare here to send to the IRS.   If you start entering data in this software you are preparing a Form 1040.   Please look at it so you will know what you are sending to the IRS:

Only the data gets efiled to the IRS not the form you used.

The 1040SR started in 2019.  It is the same as the regular 1040 just larger type and the Standard Deduction chart is added to page 1.  But has the same line numbers.    You automatically get the SR if you or your spouse are 65.  If you are using the Desktop program there is a way to force the one you want.

If you use the Desktop program you can switch to forms and the Info Wks part II has a selection to select 1040SR or not.  You can not change it in the Online versions.   In the Online version if you want to use the regular 1040 form, you can print out the 1040SR and copy the amounts onto the 1040 and then mail your return.

Would I be able to file it over or just leave it and do the verification that they sent for my dad.

And thank you very much for responding, I appreciate you.

What?  File what over?  Why?  Did you already file and it was Accepted?  Then the IRS sent you a letter?  If you mailed or efiled a return you can not file it again.  Do you need to change something on it?  Just do what the IRS letter says.

@DeborahMcClure101 If you are 65 or older the software will use a 1040SR for you.   That is the tax return form that your information gets entered on and it is what goes to the IRS.   Everyone who files a tax return is using either a 1040 or a 1040SR.   They are identical--except the 1040SR has bigger type.

@DeborahMcClure101   You want the 1040SR?  Are you or your spouse over 65?  Most people post here and complain they don't want the 1040SR.
