I don't have any pensions but TurboTax is requiring me to fill out M1QPEN. How do I avoid filling out this form?

this sounds like a BS response from TurboTax just trying to make the problem someone elses.  Looks completely like a software error with their tax program.

I don't have any pensions but TurboTax is requiring me to fill out M1QPEN. How do I avoid filling out this form?

It's March 6th and I just updated the software.  This issue has not yet been resolved.  Has anyone else gotten resolution on this?  If it doesn't get fixed, I guess I need to switch to H&R Block.

I don't have any pensions but TurboTax is requiring me to fill out M1QPEN. How do I avoid filling out this form?

Hello Sir, I hope this message finds you well. I would advise making sure that you have not entered any letter in the state I.D. box that only requires numbers. I have seen this clear this error and allowing you to complete the filing of your tax return.

I hope this helps!

I don't have any pensions but TurboTax is requiring me to fill out M1QPEN. How do I avoid filling out this form?

It's March 25th and I am still having this problem. It has not been resolved. I am a military retiree so my 1099R is retirement pay but not from a pension plan. I tried all the things in this forum - I even chatted with someone and it didn't resolve it. I deleted the form, reentered the information and it still pops up in review. I deleted my state taxes and readded them - still populates it. I made sure box 15 was just numbers, not letters or dashes. I deleted box 16... Nothing works! I have been doing my own taxes for a decade with the same 1099 and never had this problem until now. At a loss - like my only option is to submit the form and guess the fields... IDK what else to do?!?! Or file an extension hoping it is fixed soon?

FIGURED IT OUT!!! I found in another forum someone suggested to click "Continue" instead of "Skip Pension Subtraction". On the next screen, click "none of the above". You should then see a Public Pension summary page that shows zero subtraction. And it worked!

I don't have any pensions but TurboTax is requiring me to fill out M1QPEN. How do I avoid filling out this form?

After following this thread and getting as frustrated as others, I finally just decided to file after selecting None of the above, as other mentioned to clear the error.  I assumed it would file form M1QPEN with zeros.  I was a little unsure what MN would do.

But then to my great surprise, when I went to print a copy of my taxes after e-filing, that form wasn't included.  It's still in the forms section, but not as one of the forms that printed after filing.  So maybe it didn't get transmitted to Minnesota after all.

The information BSinMN posted was also accurate for me.  In my case, the annoying M1QPEN form continued to generate erroneously for a rollover of a non-pension, private annuity for which there was no distribution or state or federal taxes due.  None of the solutions offered previously solved the problem.

However, while the M1QPEN form appears in the list of MN forms, it does not print when previewing my MN tax form itself.  I am comfortable it will not be submitted when I file my taxes.

I was having the same issues and read through all these posts and tried to fix this issue. Nothing was wrong with any of my 1099r’s. Finally when I got to the post that said go back to the state and do not skip the Public Pension Subtraction. I had continually skipped it since it didn’t apply to me but turbo tax was assuming one of my 1099r’s was a pension. I selected the None of the Above and this is what got rid of my error.  Of course, this might not fix everybody’s errors, but it fixed mine after numerous hours of working on this issue😡

If there are no dollar figures in the state boxes, I advise to simply leave them all blank. I hope this helps!

I don't have any pensions but TurboTax is requiring me to fill out M1QPEN. How do I avoid filling out this form?

I have spent 1+ hrs on two separate occasions w/ turbo tax support on this issue.  I have a 1099-r but it is not a public pension.  M1wpen will not let me move forward, I cannot delete the form (zero help from support on why not).  so I filled up some gibberish about it being an intuit issue and was able to complete my taxes.  I needed to make sure I did not get a subraction to income and achieved that.

this was my last year with turbo tax and I have been using it as long as its been available.  the support I received was little more that reading thru this exact community regarding this issue.  How pathetic.  at one pt I was transferred to a next level support who obviously had a lot going on (kids yelling in background), told me it was being investigated and hung up.

spent more time today trying to share my screen than actually working on the issue.  so bad.
