I do not understand why my husband and I are not getting any Federal Refund this year ($0). I always got back the Federal Income Tax I paid for my Pension Plan ($8,868).

Nothing has really changed from last year.  Our Social Security income went up by $86 but was eaten up by the Medicare Part B premium so our net is still the same for the past few years.  The monthly  distribution from my Pension Plan had always been the same from 2003.  The tax we paid for this income was given back in the form of a federal refund every year.  We are in our 70's and we depend on this refund to add to our social security income, which is really low.

I recommend comparing last year's return to this year's return, so that you can confirm why you don't have the refund or catch any mistakes. I'll include instructions for doing so and re-entering your form 1099-R, since it sounds like that may be the problem.

Your main tax form 1040 is only 2 pages. You can preview your form 1040 and compare it line-by-line to your prior year return, by following the steps below: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302322

Form 1099-R accounts for many situations, so when you enter the form, you need to answer the questions carefully. Since it sounds like there was a mistake entering your form, I'd recommend deleting it and re-entering it. To do so, see my instructions below: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/6523590
