When you enter your personal information in the Personal Info section of the program, entering your date of birth, entering that you are married and filing the return jointly with your spouse, the TurboTax program automatically enters your Standard Deduction on the tax return.  If you and your spouse are both age 65 or older it adds the increased amounts to the standard deduction based on your ages.

Standard deductions for 2016

  • Married Filing Jointly - $12,600 add $1,250 for each spouse age 65 or older
