How do I report dividends for a company that doesn't issue a 1099 when they are under $10.00?

Do I just fill in the amount as if I received a 1099?

Yes, you would still enter the dividends as if you received a Form 1099-DIV.

Enter the amount as ordinary dividends unless you have documentation to show that they are qualified dividends as well.

Use these steps to get started:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “1099-DIV” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-DIV
  • Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-DIV” link
