TurboTax will determine if you qualify for a deduction when you enter your IRA contribution. (See the FAQ below for more information.
To enter your IRA contribution(s):
- Open (continue) your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
- Click My Account (top right of your screen).
- Select Tools.
- In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
- In the search bar, type ira contribution.
- In the results box, highlight ira contribution information, then click GO.
- You'll land on a screen that says Traditional IRA and Roth IRA. (Click the first screenshot below for reference.) Select the type(s) of IRA you have and click Continue.
- Follow the onscreen instructions. TurboTax will ask questions about your IRA contributions, so you'll be able to enter the amount(s) that your contributed. (Click the second and third screenshots below for examples of the screens for entering traditional IRA and Roth IRA contributions.)
Note: If using the TurboTax
CD/Download software, you'll use the Find function (instead of "My
Account") to search for the topic.
