How do I claim a 1099-R from a Cares Act 401k withdrawal? I do not see an option to spread it over three years as the IRS site claims.

If you did not see that question, you may already have a 1099-R listed.   If so, click on Done or Continue to get to the questions.     Search for 1099-R and then use the Jump to 1099-R link.   You are either going to get the question - did you get a 1099-R?  OR you will land on the Summary Screen.   If you don't have any 1099-R forms, delete the ones in the list.    Click on Done or Continue to get the 8915-F questions referenced above.   @Caseyblue

You can make the repayment until you file your 2021 return but not later than the due (including extension).

"A repayment is made in 2021 if it is made before you filed your 2021 return, and not later than the due date (including extensions)" (IRS Instructions for Form 8915-F page 7)

I only have my original 1099 R from the original distribution in 2020 for the Cares Act.  I now need to claim the 1/3 portion of the distribution for 2021.  How do I do this? The program keeps stating to complete the 1099 R section in income.  I only have the original distribution amount,  There is no drop down to code as cares act.  I'm totally lost and need to get this done.  Please help.

Please follow these steps to report the second portion on your 2021 tax return:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2021 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2021?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?" screen
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen

Please verify that you check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here". Also, make sure you enter the amount from Form 8915-E, line 9 twice (if it was not from an IRA) or enter the amount from Form 8915-E, line 17 twice (if it was from an IRA). This amount should be 1/3 of your 2020 COVID distribution.
