if you took no distributions, that's why you have no 1099-R.
Skip that section.
If there is a carry-over 1099-R that is not needed then delete it.
you don't know what you are talking about. OP is asking about taking a distribution in 2020 with the CARES Act and in turn is spreading it out over the next 3 years (ie $30,000 taken, apply $10,000 for 2020, 2021, 2022).
i am also wondering how i do this too since i did the same thing. i got a 1099-R last year from my brokerage but didnt get one this year since i didnt take a real distribution but in turn am spreading out the total over 3 years.
TurboTax has no info / guidance on how to do this with the Desktop software or the online. Last year the software did ask if it was CARES / Covid related and if so if you wanted to apply full or break up into 3 years.
this year, no such question or guidance on how we do this with our 1099-R from 2020.
@hateEffingtax No you misunderstood the original question. It was posted a year ago asking about doing a 2020 return, not 2021. The RMD that year was waived so they didn't take one.
The ability to enter the payment has not yet been implemented in TurboTax. It's form 8915-F scheduled for 3/31/22. Once those forms are implemented you will visit the "Retirement" topic in the "Wages and Income" tab. If you have Forms 1099-R for TY2021 distributions, you can enter them as usual.
If not, you just select "NO" when asked if you received a 1099-R.
At either point, you will then be asked about prior year "Disaster Distributions." Follow the prompts from there to enter the second installment of your distribution.
my bad, i must have missed that part. but i'm still trying to figure out my situation in taking a distribution in 2020 and applying that to my 2021 tax year filings.
update: followed advise from above but sadly TT still doesnt have the forms ready yet while other tax software appears to. guess ill have to wait for an update on TT side for both the desktop and online side of things
