Getting an error saying Form 8915F-T and 8915F-S needs to be completed but I did NOT indicate there were retirement distributions in 2022. I go back to ensure says no.

You may be able to remove the form by:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Click on Delete a form.
  • Find the form listed and click Delete to the right.

However, if the form re-generates, that means that there is an entry in the software that needs to be removed or changed.

If this is the case, return back to the point in the software where the questions that populate the form are asked.

Try the following steps if you are using TurboTax Online to see if the error message will clear:

  • Go to Federal on the left side of the screen
  • Go to Wages & Income on the left side of the screen
  • Scroll to the bottom of the section without making any changes and click Done with Income or Wrap Up Income
  • Continue moving forward until you see a question about whether you took a disaster distribution in 2020 and select 'No'
  • Run the Federal Review again to see if the error has cleared.

Getting an error saying Form 8915F-T and 8915F-S needs to be completed but I did NOT indicate there were retirement distributions in 2022. I go back to ensure says no.

No matter what I do, form 8915F keeps reappearing after I delete. I have gone through all my forms/questions and they all show NO for for any/all disaster plans. It is preventing me from filing my federal return.

HELP!

Thanks

Terry

This problem sounds like you need to clear your tax return and start over.

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2022 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

If that's what it takes, I guess I have no choice

Hi - did you get this fixed or had to redo the return?  I am having the same issue and am super frustrated. I checked NO to all questions related to disaster distributions. I am afraid this will show after starting over!!

Thanks!

Getting an error saying Form 8915F-T and 8915F-S needs to be completed but I did NOT indicate there were retirement distributions in 2022. I go back to ensure says no.

First, did you have a Covid distribution or did you have a FEMA distribution?

If it was a FEMA distribution you can try this?

Try the steps listed in the link below to clear the errors, but FIRST delete the 8915 E for BOTH you and your spouse (if married).  If you do not delete both of them it will not work.

After deleting BOTH 8915-E, you should see that 8915-F is gone too. Double check to be sure the forms are both gone.

After you see both forms are gone, walk back through and follow the steps listed here and below by Champ DoninGA.  But, the biggest thing is deleting BOTH forms and walk through ALL of the questions for the distribution for ALL of the years back to 2018.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue AFTER making sure the 8915 is deleted:  Also, if you are using TurboTax Online, after the forms are deleted, clear your cache and cookies to be sure it is completely gone.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have a 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back"
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information. (DO NOT Check the box if it was NOT a Covid related distribution)

I gave up also trying to fix. Starting a new return and hoping that it doesn't appear again. It is a flaw in TurboTax software.

I followed the advice but it didn’t work. TurboTax will not keep the answers

I had to redo completely and form 8915 did not show up... thank goodness

What a hassle!

Please be aware, the 3rd portion of the 2020 Covid distribution won't show on the Income & Wages summary. You will have to check Form 1040 line 4b (for IRAs) or 5b (for other than IRA accounts) to see if the amount is included.

To preview 1040 in TurboTax Online:

  1. Click on "Tax Tools" in the left menu
  2. Click "Tools"
  3. Click "View Tax Summary" in the Tool Center window
  4. Click on "Preview my 1040" on the left

If deleting the "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" (8915E wks in TurboTax Desktop) and rentering the information doesn't work to delete the entry on line C then it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2022" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Online

  1. From the left menu select Tax Tools.
  2. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  3. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  4. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  5. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  6. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

The instructions for TurboTax Download

  1. On your menu bar at the very top, click "Online"
  2. Select "Send Tax File to Agent"
  3. Click "Send"
  4. The pop-up will have a token number
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

I am running downloaded software on my PC.   I can't seem to get this form to go away.  I've stated that I've taken no disaster relief  and deleted the form - yet here we are.  DO you really have to start over???

There is a Form 8915 E that generated From 8915 F. Go 8915E and uncheck Disaster, then FROM 8915 will disappear
