Do you need to file a tax return if you are retired and take money from a pension fund

my mother in law gets social security but also took a withdraw from a 'pension', does she need to file taxes.

It depends. If her pension was over $13,600, she should file a tax return. If not, and she only has SSA and pension, then she would not need to file a return. See table below.
