If you are being asked for an employer EIN, you are in the wrong section of the program. Please delete the form you are trying to enter the SSA-1099.
To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button
Yes, that's correct and unnecessary. You are not asked for the employer identification number (EIN) when entering your social security income. You may not have to file if this is all you have for income in 2023.
The maximum amount of social security benefits that can be added to your tax return is 85% of your total benefits.
