Deductions for business property purchased with IRA.

In 2023, I formed an LLC for a restaurant I am going to build. I withdrew $120,000 from my IRA  to use as the 20% downpayment for the purchase of property for the restaurant.  When I did it, I assumed that the money would be a business expense. However, the withdrawal from my IRA is categorized as income, but I have not found a way to list it as a business expense for the property.  How can I do this?  The current situation is causing me to owe a large amount of income tax that I was not expecting. I am also making monthly payments on the property, which I thought would be expenses, as well, but I have not been able to list them as such.

The IRA withdrawal is taxable and if withdrawn before age 59 1/2 is subject to a 10% penalty. The property is a business asset which can be depreciated and is subject to other business related deductions.

I tried to list it as a business asset. After entering all the information, the next frame says "Your 2023 estimated expense for this asset is $0."

There has to be some way to get some type of deduction for such a large expenditure.

Once distributed from the IRA, the $120,000 is simply cash that belongs to you as an individual.  Cash itself is not a business expense, but what you purchase with the cash might be.

Thank you for the response, but I am looking for an answer to my question about the business expense, not the withdrawal. I spent the money on the business, just like any other item or improvement I spend on the business. There must be some way to show that and receive a deduction for that expense. If there is not, there should be some explanation for why not. I have not found either one.

Our understanding is that you bought a business asset like a building. That itself is not a deduction. What exactly did you do with the withdrawal?

That was in my original post. I used the money as " the 20% downpayment for the purchase of property for the restaurant."

That’s what we thought. That is not a deduction, it’s an investment like you bought a stock. You are buying an investment property.
