He should get a 1099R for the retirement account.  They usually arrive by mid-February.  The 1099R has to be entered on his tax return.

, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
