What kind of 1099? Why are you adding them to your return? They might need to file their own returns for them.
If the recipient's name and Social Security number on the two 1099 forms are different, you cannot add them together under any circumstances. Who is the recipient on each 1099?
There is no plain Form 1099. All 1099 forms have one or more letters after the 1099. There are over 20 different kinds. The most common are 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-NEC, 1099-R, and 1099-G. That's why VolvoGirl asked what kind of 1099 you have.
I'll take a guess. A common one is the SSA-1099 for Social Security. If they only got Social Security or SSDI or ssi they don’t have to file a return and nobody reports it. They might have to report other kinds of 1099.
