What state?   Was it a state that has a state income tax?  Are you in a state with a state income tax?   Does your state tax retirement income?  What state are you in---and is that where you have been for all ten years?

Illinois received the money, I don’t believe they tax pensions. The state that I live in and have lived in the entire time of pension is Arkansas, which taxes pensions, at least some of it.

Yes, correct on both counts.

IL does not tax pensions earned from working there. Arkansas does partially exempt federal and state and  private retirement. Military is fully exempt.

 

All income automatically goes to your resident state return. Arkansas allows you to make the necessary subtractions.

Arizona?   OP indicated Arkansas...though the answer may, or may not change.
