Hi, I am considered active reserves military, with an E-3 rating in the Air Force, but I do not have a military W2 and will not receive one, because I am still in college under the AFROTC program. I should qualify for the TurboTax discount, but I don't have a W2 to produce. Is there any other form of proof I can provide besides the W2 (i.e. photo of my military ID with ranking listed)? Thank you.
This Turbo Tax FAQ will provide the qualifications for the discount.
Who is eligible for the Free Military Discount?
Thank you for the reply. As an E-3, according to the link you provided, I should qualify, but it still doesn't mention how to work around the W2, if you don't have one. Would you know of a way to provide proof of rank without providing a W2?
It's easy to remove a W-2.
This does not even remotely address my issue. I am not looking to find out how to remove a W2. I am trying to find out how to prove my military rank without using a W2. This is incredibly frustrating because I feel it should not be this complicated. I was instructed that I would have to upgrade to Premier, in order to file my taxes, due to the need to claim a portion of my scholarship as income, because room and board is not considered an eligible education expense. Premier should be free for me, because I am an E-3, but because I cannot provide a W2, TurboTax will not recognize me as active military, even though I am. It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that TurboTax is not interested in providing a meaningful solution. What a shame, since I have used TurboTax for years.

If you cannot provide a military W-2 for 2020 then there cannot be a military discount. The only way TurobTax can know someone is active military is based on the EIN on the W-2.
You can use the discount next year for the 2021 tax return when you will have a military W-2

Thank you. I sincerely appreciate the reply. It is obvious that there is no way around this issue for me and will have to pay the Premier fee, since I do not have and cannot produce a military W2 this year. I will not qualify next year, because I will then be a commissioned officer, and the discount is only for enlisted. Nevertheless, I appreciate the reply. Thank you for your service.

Making it difficult to apply for the discount! Very shady I assume the company is doing this on purpose to rip off the military.
What problems are you having for the military discount? Have you entered a military W-2? Did you select in the My Info section for your personal information that you were active military?
Did you check the box after entering the W-2 on the screen Let's check for uncommon situations that states Active military duty?
Nice scam they got going. I didn't get the refund and now have to call the customer service number.
Please
