It depends on your situation. There are some tax breaks available for military servicemembers. For example, combat pay is not taxable income, allowances such as for housing and food are not taxable, deductions for moving expenses are still allowed for military members, military serving overseas get extra filing time, and others. Finally, enlisted military get to file for free with TurboTax. In the “Personal Info” section be sure to indicate that you served in the military and select your rank. In the “Wages/Income” section be sure to enter your military W2 and on the follow on page for “Special Situations” select that “Active Duty Military” box for that W2.
