Stuck in Federal Review for stocks, mutual funds, bonds, other

Since we can't see your return in this forum, there can be several reasons for the 'Needs Review' message.

If you imported your 1099-B, that can cause the 'Needs Review' to pop up.  You could Delete your import and enter a Summary instead.

If you're using TurboTax Online, try closing TurboTax, clearing your Cache and Cookies and re-visiting the section.

However, If you reviewed your tax forms and they are correct, you can continue past this.

Hi, OP here. This is not a cache issue. Also, tried the summary page. Didn't work. This is a bug in the 1099-b that turbotax doesn't care to fix. Just awful service and software.

hello,

you can try this and see if it works.

go to federal -> Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other -> go to each of your brokerage 'edit' -> under 'gain/loss' column, find '$0.00' and hit 'edit' for that entry -> scroll down to 'box 4 Federal income tax withheld'. it probably shows actual '$0.00'. but delete it entirely. do not put anything there. it seems turbotax would not take $0.00 entry. if you haven't withheld federal tax for your stock, or any investment buy/sell then this entry should be 'blank' in turbotax. let me know if this works.

Having the exact same issue, leaving box 4 federal income withheld blank didn’t work for me, will TurboTax let you file with those errors ?

Sure. But the question is do you want to explain it to the IRS auditor assigned to you?

I agree with you. It is software error from the company and needs to be fixed. I had a same issue for 2020 tax return and did the same to fix it. Do this on your own risk. Not a tax adviser and you are right, never know if it will be audited or not.

The problem is definitely in 1099-B's, I had 218 errors needing review, I end up deleting the 1099-B and entered it as summary instead, that took care of the issue for now.

Pls help! I have 552 details need review, seriously I need to do this one by one?

What it means by "entered it as summary instead"? Instead of doing it line by line, you were just putting it as summary ( like total gain/ loss?)

Thanks

You may elect to report summary information.  Your brokerage statements should include a summary of your transactions, grouped by sales category, for example, Box A short-term covered or Box D long-term covered. You will enter the summary info instead of each individual transaction.

  1. Open or continue your return and search for stock sales.
  2. Select the Jump to link in the search results
  3. Answer Yes to Did you sell stocks, mutual funds, bonds, or other investments in 2021?
    • If you land on Your investment sales summary, select Add more sales
  4. On the OK, what type of investments did you sell? screen, select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, then Continue
  5. On the Let's import your tax info screen, select I'll type it myself
  6. Step through the interview and select Sales section totals when prompted to choose how to enter your sales
  7. You will now be able to enter the total proceeds (sales) and cost basis, along with the sales category. Refer to your 1099-B for the amounts and category. When finished, select Continue
  8. You can add additional sales totals by selecting the Add another sales total on the Review your sales section totals screen.

See TurboTax Help here.

Thank you THE MOST.  I was going in circles trying to "review" the statements. again, login, again, pick one, and this was like music:
