Schedule E: Room and Board

I am renting a room in my home to my father with dementia. His rent includes the food (room & board). Food/meals is mentioned in the lease. Is it OK for me to put the cost of food on line 19 (other)? If not, where does it go if it  is an expense I incur?

Schedule E: Room and Board

No, if you are providing services such as meals, then this becomes a Schedule C business. On that form, you can deduct the cost of meals. It would be a miscellaneous expense.
