@Turbotax: it seems this would be a simple fix. what is clear from all of the posts is that the issue occurs for small businesses that are not required to complete the balance sheet/schedule L - in this case the CA 568 Line G tries to pull a value but cannot store it.
There are thousands of small businesses in CA that are affected by this - please update on when the fix is coming. This has worked correctly in the past year's software.
Thanks, but TT really needs to fix this issue. It is total BS for us to have to do this workaround in order to e-file. I'll wait a few more days and then resort to printing it out if I have to.
Hey all!
spoke with Turbotax yesterday on the phone and had a screen sharing session with someone who was checking with their internal teams that are working on this issue. While they are working on it now, they said it will take a while for this to get fixed.
The only way to efile right now is to actually create the balance sheet. I have done this now and successfully efiled.
I too have two submission and both have the same problem i.e. getting into a endless loop.
TurboTax - did you guys test the e[file capabilities of CA state tax returns?
Thank you!!!!! This fixed the problem! THANK YOU!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I have spent over 4 hours total with TurboTax support--from level 1 to I think level 3. I've spoken to TT accountants? and have gone thru every federal and state entry that I made and NONE of them could help.
For $160 plus state, you'd think TurboTax could get their act together. I will be thinking long and hard before I by the 2022 product.
As another member stated, you need to enter the balance sheet. Then on the m-1 reconciliation you need to enter the depreciation difference and the amount of LLC tax you paid ($800 flat rate under a certain amount of income and assets)
Same exact issues for 2021 Business Tax . TurboTax, please fix it.
Thank you so much for posting this explanation. I did it as you said, and my return was filed immediately. I had already spent about 2 hours in an endless loop trying to correct this. So appreciative that you took the time to come to this board and help us all out.
Thanks to Matthew, Lori, and the others who have provided information here. Like you, I've been using Turbotax business for many years and never encountered this particular issue.
(The word "particular" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.)
Turbotax, this is so embarrassing for you. The posters in this thread have done the hard work for you and identified the EXACT PROBLEM. Fix it, already! There are going to be tons of California small business hitting this in the next week or two.
I'm not going to muck with my return just to work around their bug, and I'm not going to send it by mail, either. I paid for this. So I'll be voicing my concerns with support, and I'm quite good at that...
I went through an hour discussion with a TT specialist. They were able to see the same issue as described in this thread, and after the session, gave me this link. Unfortunately, it isn't clear that the "fix" supposedly in progress, will be complete in time for the March 15th filing deadline. I see three choices.
1) File for an extension and hope it really gets fixed at some point.
2) File for a waiver on CA e-File and mail the state the paper 568 return.
3) Input a Balance Sheet into TT, even though not required.
Number 1 is a roll of the dice. Pass. Number 3 is probably doable, but if you are a somewhat complicated business then getting the Balance Sheet correct (100% match to your books) where it won't create a problem in a future tax year could be a challenge. Pass. Seems like number 2 is the only reasonable course of action business-wise. Really archaic to file paper returns. We paid for the e-File capability when we bought TT, so it seems we should get some sort of credit.
I ran into the same issue today when filing and had to resort to a paper submission (we are small enough and don't carry a balance sheet, so TurboTax wasn't playing nice with trying to create that only for 2021). Very annoyed though since I am under a deadline to get this submitted and distribute Schedule K1 to partners so they can be on-time with personal tax deadlines. Good luck y'all!
I'm doing the same. It is my understanding that to file by paper, it requires a waiver from the CA FTB.

Easy to complete.
Yep, I did submit an eFile exemption/waiver and referenced this bug article. It was approved immediately and off I went! Not excited to print out a (57) page PDF and send via USPS Priority. :(
Here is the link I used as yours didn't work: https://www.ftb.ca.gov/tax-pros/efile/busi[product key removed]r-request.asp
OMG! They finally fixed it! I was just able to e-file my CA taxes on 3/4 at 12:15am PST. Good job everyone! So glad I waited.
