My Alabama return is showing rental income but it is $0 on the Federal return. So, I'm unable to e-file my AL return until this gets corrected. How can I resolve?

I’m unable to e-file my Alabama return as the amount reported on Form 40, Pg.2, Part 1, line 6, does not equal to the aggregate amount reported as Total Income or (Loss) from all Alabama Schedule E’s, line 25, and is thus not eligible for electronic filing.  The amount currently shown on Form 40 is equal to an outdated/incorrect number I used to have on the Federal side prior to entering in more expenses and depreciation expense on the related screens on the Federal side.  I’m unable to figure out how to get rid of the incorrect amount on the Form 40.  The Schedule E for Alabama is correctly showing as $0, the same as the Federal Schedule E.

Since all your information was reported on the federal side properly, I suggest you delete and re-add Alabama.

To delete and re-add the state:

  • From the left menu select State>
  • Continue>next to your state, click the Trash Can icon and follow through the rest of the questions ending with Done
  • Click Add Another State>Your state>and go through the interview again.
