I pay rent in Michigan. I'm filing as single. Do I put the rent amount as is on my lease, or do i put the split rent amount the i share with a housemate.

I pay rent in Michigan. I'm filing as single. Do I put the rent amount as is on my lease, or do i put the split rent amount the i share with a housemate. An example: 

Rent is 1,200

There is two people who split it

Do we put the rent amount we each individually pay or what the rent is for the unit.

You should enter just your share of the rent, according to MI instructions for this credit:

"When two or more single adults share a home, each may file a credit claim if each has contracted to pay rent or owns a share of the home. Each adult should file an individual claim based on his or her total household resources and prorated share of taxes or rent paid."
