"I have two homes, but only one mortgage. My primary has a mortgage, but my rental home doesn't. Can I deduct my mortgage interest from my primary to my rental home?"

"I have two homes, one is a rental and the other is my primary home. My rental home was my primary home for 10 years since January 2006.  The mortgage for it was paid in full.
Three years ago in 2016 we decided to purchase another house as our new primary home. My new primary home has a mortgage, and my rental home does'nt.

I want to know if I can deduct my mortgage interest from my primary home to the rental home?"

No. One is a personal expense and the other is a business expense. You can't deduct a personal expense on a Schedule E.
