I am entering my 1099 misc. for royalties from mineral rights. I don't know if I need to click investment income or royalty income. I don't own the land or a business

You would report it as investment income from property you own. Since you inherited it and are not operating a business to extract the minerals from the ground it is investment and not a business.

Whether you enter it through Other Common Income selecting the 1099-MIsC or through Rents, Royalties and Farm selecting Rental Properties &  Royalties in the Wages & Income section it will be reported on Schedule E.
