Question

Your transmission didn't go through - software update

I was going to transmit federal and state returns, I received a message stating "Validation failed", then proceeded to tell me that there is an update available for my program. I checked for updates and it said I am up to date. It then tells me that I can print the return and mail it, however I paid $80 for the program, and another $20 for the state form, I shouldn't have to print and mail my return. Help!

Same transmission error that I need to update the software, but no update.  Same issue if I try just Federal.  Intuit, we need an estimate ETA for this problem.

    Same problem in Wisconsin

I also had the same problem, started yesterday (Sat 2/8).  I was still having the same problem today Sun 2/9.  I called Intuit TT support on 2/8 and was told by that person she had heard from several others about the same problem and to wait.  Tried e-file again Sun 2/9 and still had the same problem.  If you try to uninstall TT it also gives you a repair option.  I tried the repair tool and got an error message with code 1334 (I'm using Windows 10 with a PC download version).  So I uninstalled and reinstalled TT, thinking there was a corrupt file on the install.  After the reinstall I had the same problem.  I found an .exe file on another TT support thread that forces a manual update.  Downloaded and tried that with no luck.  So I called TT support again and was told it is a widespread problem and common to get the error code 1334 with the repair tool.  So there is a software glitch that needs to be fixed.  Support gave me a code to use the online version of TT for free, which I did and got my taxes e-filed without a problem, but I had to reenter all of the info.  That wasn't too bad because my filing is fairly simple.  Time consuming and a pain to do taxes a second time, but it also verified what I had done the first time and came up with the same result.  Although it should not have happened this way.

I'm sure they will push out another update soon with a fix for this problem, so looks like you just have to wait or contact support and do your taxes again online.

I checked for updates this morning.  It downloaded the update and then I was able to transmit.  Huzzah!  Looks like they fixed the problem.  Sounds like the software does a check for the current version number on a remote server and won't allow to send unless current.  I suspect someone incremented the number without posting the actual update for  download.  Just a guess.

@dcskinner Was that with Windows or Mac? I just went back and checked, and my Mac version still doesn't find an update.

I've been trying to file my return since Feb 6th. I wanted 48 hours after that to file like they said it still says "Your transmission didn't go through." I've also tried today and still didn't work. Hopefully they resolve this issue soon and we get a notice about it. MA

FYI: Either by coincidence or dumb luck, I was able to FINALLY e-file my returns after struggling for two days now with very same issue being discussed here. After discussing this matter with several TT representatives today, I was ultimately advised that the only fix would be to uninstall and then reinstall the Turbo Tax Program. Before I was willing to try that fix, I felt it necessary to backup (copy) the  turbo tax files and the TT program itself onto a thumb drive-just to be safe. Once that was accomplished, for the hell of it, I then opened the TT program from the thumb drive instead of my hard drive TT program, and VOILA, a 230mb Turbo Tax update resulted and I was able to e-file thereafter. FYI: I'm using Turbo Tax Deluxe downloaded from their website upon my purchase-i.e., not a CD or online version. MacBook Air is the computer I'm using. I hope this may help some of my no doubt frustrated filers.

I am running Windows 10 Pro and had the same problem. I updated " your software is up to date", tried again to transmit returns "you need an update". Finally, I saved my returns to PDF just in case and uninstalled the software. I then reinstalled the software and updated the software. My return was still there so I hit "transmit" and the returns were sent with no problem. I have no idea what caused the problem, but this worked for me.

We had the same problem on a Mac. Amber at Turbo Tax was able to help us. First we cleared the cache in both Safari and Google Chrome (cookies, history, etc.). Then we made Chrome our default browser (this is the browser that works best with Turbo Tax.) Shut down computer for a few minutes. When we restarted and opened Turbo Tax there was a Turbo Tax update that we had been unable to see when Safari was our default browser. After the update was installed we were able to successfully file our taxes (fed and NY). I don't remember all the steps to clear the cache, but you can find directions for that online, I'm sure. Hope it works for you.

Yeah, still not validating my returns or transmitting them.  TT employee links do not provide solutions.  Only more wasted time running around following random instructions that have no value an provide no solution.  I paid $60 for TT, $45 for audit protection, and $20 for state so that I could file electronically and receive my refund quicker than refund lead time for mailed returns.  So if i use another software program I'm out $125.  If I mail in my returns I have to wait weeks or months longer for my refund. Either way I'm not getting what I paid for.  WTH TurboTax!?!  No TURBO in your tax software. First you force anyone with investments to have to upgrade to Premier Business and now the upgraded version I'm paying for does not work?? I'm done with this company, its scams, and it's worthless software.
