Turbotax Error Code: 25300

I installed TurboTax Deluxe Windows from the CD and completed my initial federal return for 2019. I have been checking for updates and the Wisconsin state download which appears to not be available. Today, Jan. 6, 2020 I checked updates again and received federal form downloads. When I attempted to open my federal return, TurboTax opened in an obsolete 2018 AMT form with an error code: 25300. I no longer have access to my federal return or the Wisconsin state download which apparently is still not available. The Windows troubleshooting aid offered by Intuit is not helpful as it pertains to initial installation and PC setup. As a retired IT professional, my PC is completely up to date with W10, drivers, and security software. This problem is due to an Intuit TurboTax update that now prevents the program from loading and operating properly to allow access to my initial federal return entry. Will Intuit be providing a TurboTax update that will resolve this problem and restore access to my 2019 federal return and when will the Wisconsin state download be available? This is the first time experiencing issues with TurboTax after many years of use.  Please respond with the plan and timing of corrective action to repair this Intuit initiated issue.

I got it working now.  I ran it as Administrator, and using Windows 8 Compatibility mode.

I was having the same problems as people have described on this thread, and all of them were fixed by disabling my antivirus software just before starting the TurboTax Updater.  Apparently, the Bitdefender Firewall was blocking TT from accessing the internet, and that may have messed up my installation (Windows download) even before the failed updates totally "broke" the program. I only needed to have it disabled for 2-3 minutes because I started TT first (which took forever to launch as it was running incredibly slow), cancelled the Auto Updater and waited another long time for the program to relaunch. I closed  my browser and all open programs, disabled Bitdefender, then selected Check for Updates. Remarkably, it was already running 10x faster at this point. The update only took a short time, and installed "Critical" Program and Tax Form updates released on 1/13/20.

I immediately enabled my antivirus protection and opened the tax return I had started earlier before everything stopped working. Before the update, it took well over a minute just to open the return Now it opened up quickly, all the forms I had created were back in place, and everything was working again. That's it. I didn't have to reboot or do anything else.  Had I seen this thread earlier, I probably would have tried running the Updater in Admin mode first because that sounds less risky, but I read about the potential antivirus issue somewhere else, so that's what I did.  It's possible that running as Admin may have also solved the problem, but I can't say. One last thing, I went back and added the turbotax 2019 installer.exe file to the exclusions folder in Bitdefender so that it knows it's a safe application. Maybe the TT program update already fixed this, but just in case.

I have been having the same issues with updates and state downloads. I have spent at least three hours with three different technicians from Turbotax. I have removed and reinstalled the Federal program several times. On one occasion I also only had access to the single obsolete 2018 AMT form, but after removing the program and reinstalling it again, my data came back. I received the Federal CD around Thanksgiving time and I have been seeking help from Inuit for these problems since early December. One Technician said that they were having issues with Microsoft Edge. We cleaned all of the cookies and made sure Chrome was up to date. Even though I have an incident ID with Intuit no one has contacted me without my calling them first. I too have been using Turbotax for many years, but I am very disappointed with their response to these issues.

Do not bill me until I’m able to efile. All forms have not been updated yet on your site and I’m having to wait until Feb 6th to try again.

The consumer doesn’t find this out until you actually go to file.

That sucks. You need to provide this info up front so there’s not time wasted on figuring this out. Ie Schedule I will not be available til 2/6/2020.

What a waste of time.

The way the program works in the FILE tab :

Step 1 > pay the TT fees no matter how you will file or when ... this allows you access to a complete copy of the return that you can print/review which is required by law before you file.

Step 2 > choose how you will file (efile or mail)   and get the refund or pay the balance due ... at this point the state return did not have an issue until you choose to efile ... then the delay was mentioned. Since you are trying to file before the state is ready you will need to either wait for the efile form to be ready or mail in the return. The fact that you already paid for the program is immaterial ... you could efile the fed now and send the state later ... simply choose that option.

I filed my federal return. No problem.

Saved my state return because I was having trouble with one form. When I came back, I couldn't file it. I paid the $19.99 with a representative. Still can't file. HELP!

Since you did not file the returns together  you must now wait until your federal return has been accepted to efile the  state.  Try again later.

While this likely does not address the issue posed by jclusen this may fix issues other individuals encounter with this error.

I needed to change data that I had entered in the Step-by-Step mode. In particular I needed to delete extra data associated with health care data involved with multiple 1099-HCs.  It would not let me change it using that mode, so I went to Forms view and modified it there. The changes worked and I was able to save the data. The next time I started up Turbo Tax it generated the error 25300 and it defaulted to Forms view. Since those changes were the last activity I had done, I went to the data in Forms view and deleted the data as well as other data in that form. However, just deleting the data I had changed might have been enough.  Anyway, I saved my tax data and exited. When I opened the taxes again, my taxes opened successfully in Step-by-Step mode. So now I was able to add the data correctly using Step-by-Step mode.

I've noticed in past years issues you have to be careful entering data in Step-by-Step mode and then modifying it in Forms view.

Employers listing code cc on the w2 could be due to the new tax law where the employer is able to extend paying a portion of their employer taxes till a later date. Employer use only, does not affect filing your taxes
