It never comes back for more information about basis.
Under "investment income" if I select updating stocks, it takes me back to the same 1099. There is no place apparent to enter basis information.

The taxpayer and spouse each have separate HSA accounts with different HDHP coverage types — one has Family HDHP coverage and the other has Self‑Only HDHP coverage. However, TurboTax is incorrectly forcing the spouse’s Form 8889‑S to show Family coverage instead of Self‑Only. Because of this, TurboTax is treating the spouse’s $4,300 contribution as an excess contribution and is adding it as taxable income. This is incorrect, and I need TurboTax to allow the spouse’s coverage to be Self‑Only.

Hello, I just completed three years of NUA related transactions and it appears to have been successful. In year one, I took the NUA and reported it consistent with the 1099 data showing the NUA value. I paid regular income tax on the cost basis. In years 2 and 3, I sold 50% of the shares each year (I waited a year for LTCG for the entire value) I have desktop TTD and made a manual adjustment on the 8960 worksheet. The IRS accepted both the 2024 and 2025 returns without adjustment. State was more difficult as they do not recognize NUA's nor the Rule of 55 for retirement. So, I paid state tax on the full value of the distribution and then had to adjust the cost basis when I sold - paying the gain based on the distribution price (as opposed to cost basis) . This caused me to also manually adjust the state cost basis of the shares. I expected that between the federal and state manual adjustments that I would be flagged. I think it's critical that the value of the NIIT exclusion after everything is sold does not exceed the NUA on the original 1099 - and I triple checked this metric. The tax savings is enormous between the LTCG and NIIT treatment so it is well worth doing if you have any significant appreciation. It also reduces your future RMD which could affect your income for Medicare premiums. I am happy to say that all returns have been accepted and this three year set of transactions is complete!

My total losses in brokerage account + ESPP exceed the $3k limit. Yet the total capital loss shown is <$2k. Is this a calculation error?

"Are IRA contributions before 4/15/26 for tax year 2025 supposed to be included in the value as of 12/31/25?" No. When I doubt, refer to the IRS instructions for a particular form. The instructions for line 6 of Form 8606 say only to add the amount of any outstanding rollovers. (TurboTax asks if you had any outstanding rollovers, so when TurboTax asks for the 12/31 value, enter the amount actually present on 12/31.)

You can file without a W-2, but first contact your employer or payroll provider to request it. You can also check your IRS wage and income transcript.
If you still don’t receive it, use Form 4852 (Substitute for Form W-2) and estimate your wages and withholding from your pay stubs.
How do I file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852?

Enter all of the box-12 boxes in the corresponding box-12 boxes on TurboTax's W-2 form, nowhere else in TurboTax. TurboTax automatically picks up the code-W entry from the W-2 form, so do not enter this amount separately in the HSA section.
