This is exactly what I was just spinning my wheels on and your answer helped so much.  Thank you!  That table was exactly what was needed to figure out why we didn't qualify when we have in the past.  The details in TT as to who does and doesn't qualify were not helpful enough, it was that table that makes all the difference.  Thanks again from your fellow Minnesotan

See the IRS instructions for Form 1116 at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1116.pdf  .  On page 17, there are instructions for line 3b.    On this form, they want you to separate the deductions you're taking into three categories:  (1) deductions definitely related to your foreign income, (2) deductions definitely related to your USA income, and (3) deductions that don't definitely relate to either your foreign income or your USA income.  Line 3b is where you list "any other deductions that don’t definitely relate to any specific type of income (for example, deductions shown on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), Part II, Adjustments to Income)."   Turbotax is programmed to list the proper categories of deductions on the appropriate lines of this form.

Yes, if you have entries for the same local entity on two different lines on the W-2, you can combine the amounts on one line. Boxes 18, 19 and 20 are related.   If you have a second local entity, you can add a line ("add another locality") to make entries for the second local entity.   See this TurboTax tips article for more information about Form W-2.

I had different rates for regular hours and overtime. The hours I worked over 40 weekly were payed at  4.2 times more.  What should I put in turbo tax since there are only two options ("Enter total time-and-a-half pay" and "Enter your total double-time pay")?    Thanks!

Maryland now imposes an additional 2% tax on net capital gains for individuals whose Federal Adjusted Gross Income (FAGI) exceeds $350,000. Since your Virginia rental gain ($387,000) alone puts your FAGI over this threshold, the entire net gain is subject to this surtax, even if the property is located in another state.  See Technical Bulletin 58 Capital Gains.
Thank you
Hi, thank you for answering. Does that mean I can efile my tax with turbotax and then mail form 3520 in? Or should I mail my tax return + form 3520 all together, instead of e fileling ?

See the screenshots above in my earlier post.    Use Part II Section 1 for Gross Income - U.S. Source is column (a) and Foreign-Source amounts are reported in columns (b) - (e).    For expenses and deductions, use Part II Section 2 - likewise, Foreign-Source amounts are reported in columns (b) - (e). Interest expense is reported on lines 39 - 43.      Follow where the foreign-source columns (b) - (e) intersect / cross with the expense rows labeled in the Description column, when using this grid to identify the items being asked about from your Schedule K-3.
