Thank you @LenaH , that worked! Can I ask why I should put 0$, what do those represent? Why did TurboTax not put it?

Correct, all were payroll deductions in 2025. I entered $4300 in box 12 code W on my W-2. I would like to leave it at that and not touch anything else HSA-related, but I have to enter a 1099-SA for $360 in medical expense distributions. The 1099-SA workflow goes directly into asking me questions about whether I had an HDHP, etc. I don't check any boxes or enter any amounts, and at the end of that workflow TurboTax tells me I contributed an excess of $3800. I have no idea how it even knows that number. My W-2 does not separate out the $500 my employer contributed from the $3800 "I" contributed. I tell TurboTax I'm not going to withdraw any of the excess. On the breakdown page it shows $4300 in "tax free employer contributions." So which is it, am I getting taxed 6% on $3800 or not?

Here are some things I found in your return that will make a difference.   Go to Deductions and Credits>You and Your Family>Adoption Credit and revisit the questions Click Edit in the next screen next to the entry.  It says it's looking for additional information. Now enter the birth year of your child in the next screen.  That entry looks empty. Next screen asks when you began adoption proceedings.  Make a choice here. Next screen asks when the adoption was finalized. Here you must say 2025 to receive the credit. Once I made this choice, your adoption credit magically appeared. Your Kansas refund amount also dramatically increased. The next screen will ask if you filed Form 8839 in 2024. If you did, there will be a few more questions based on that form. Now review each of the remaining answers. Now when everything is said and done, your adoption credit of $17,280 is restored. I now see your refundable credit of $5000 is reported on the 1040 Line 30 and the non-refundable credit of $12,280 is reported on line 20 of the 1040 and in Schedule 3 line 8. Keep in mind, you will need to make these changes in your return. I say this because many assume we can make changes on this end. What we do is for diagnostic purposes only, but it doesn't affect your return, which is a good thing for both of us.

When claiming the Georgia Qualified Education Expense credit there are two places where you can indicate that you claimed a federal deduction for the amount you donated.  The first is a check box on the screen "Additional Info for the Education Expense Credit"  There are three check boxes.  The first says "I did not deduct my contribution as charitable donations on my federal return".  If you did deduct it, leave that box blank.       On the next screen "Qualified Education Expense Tax Credit" you are asked if you took a federal itemized deduction for the amount of the credit as state tax payment - SALT deduction.  Unless you deducted the donation/credit amount as a SALT deduction you should answer no. If you answer yes and did not, you will get an error message.     I'm guessing you answered yes to the question about taking an itemized deduction for a state income tax payment.  Answering yes, and entering an amount will check the box on the QEE Form that you added the federal deduction amount to your Georgia income and also add it back on Schedule 1 of your state tax return.  But it also results in an error.   If you leave the check box blank indicating you deducted the contribution as a charitable donation on your federal return, it doesn't check the box on the QEE form and it doesn't add it back to your state income.  You can add the income to your state income by going to the income section of your Georgia return. Scroll down to "Other Additions to Georgia Income" and click on Start.  On the next page enter something to the effect of QEE Deducted on Federal.  The check box on the QEE form will still not be checked, but you should be able e-file.  And you will have added the income back, it' just a checkbox that will be missing a check mark.   Another option would be to take the claim donation as an estimated tax payment instead of a charitable donation - if you haven't reached the limit on SALT donations.   That will check the box on the QEE form and add the amount back to GA income.

I imported my tax document from webull into turbotax. There is a slight discrepancy in the amount of dividend income box 1a in turbotax and on my actual webull statement -  I mean the discrepancy is less than $ and I can't figure out why.  Is there anything I may be missing here, something I could check on my statement that would account for this? Or would it be best for me to delete the webull documents from turbotax and then try re-importing them?

My problem (as I think I said), is that YOU CAN NOT file an   extension from turbotax desk top version electronically,  which you would know if you even read the instructions that was in yours and others suggestions! It is so asinine  and unbelievable in todays electronic world. I sent them by mail even though I did not want to. Just turbotax run around that waists our time just to try to figure out if it can be done.  Turbotax just dont give a hood about their customers - period Jorgen

I paid an additional $3000 for 2024 instead of to 2025. 2025 is now also complete. How do I get a credit or refund?
I made you a couple screenshots from my Desktop program.  But the 4th quarter estimated payment date defaults to 2026.  So I don't understand why you are having trouble with it.
The $0 offer said I could switch back to PC mode if I wanted to, but I can find any clicks to do so.

To find the amount marked as 'estimated' in your return, go to FORMS and scroll the list of Forms in My Return for a  red exclamation mark.  The field marked as estimated will appear red with red numbers.  You can right-click on the field to 'Cancel Override' and either let the field repopulate from its data source, type in the correct amount, or return to the interview for that entry.    Common Areas to Check: Schedule A (itemized deductions) Form 1040-ES (federal estimated payments) State Estimated Taxes paid section Form 8889-S (HSA data)   @tocguy

You may need to delete VA. The GA return should be completed first. I don't think income is the issue, I think it's the difference in taxing.    Follow these steps to enter income in GA: The interview - this must be gone through  in GA screen by screen: Federal Personal information - be sure you marked that you lived in more than one state and the dates. This flows to GA. Open to GA interview - verify dates W2 GA wages allocated between GA and other state Interest and dividends - you should be entering those prorated amounts. Capital gains - also prorated by you GA itemized deductions choose ratio method of income and time for whichever is best for you Standard deduction - the program prorates it based on income Screen showing all income and adjustments GA is one of the easiest states to enter income so I am not convinced GA income entry is the issue here.  I think the way states tax is throwing you off.   GA taxes part year residents by calculating the tax on the full year of income and then pro-rates the tax based on the income percentage earned in GA. Look at your GA return. Line 8 total income from the federal Line 9 GA income Line 10 ratio percentage VA taxes based on VA income.

Then you are correct and the program is wrong.   The IRS revised the Instruction in 2018, based on a Tax Court case.  TurboTax never revised the program and is giving the incorrect result that you see.     This is the 8th year since the change, so it seems unlikely that TurboTax will correct things anytime soon.  You may want to look for other methods to prepare your tax returns (such as other software or going to a good tax professional) that can do it correctly.

Another user came to my rescue with their Feb 1st post. See my reply on Feb 7th for more detail:    user[phone number removed] New Member I was baffled also by the forced standard deduction. Looking into it this morning, I found that on the Forms view Info Worksheet, Part VI-Additional Information for Your Federal Return, it had automatically checked the box to take the Standard Deduction even if it is less than Itemized Deductions. I unchecked and saved and the refund increased substantially. Hopefully, it won't try to switch it back. Not sure why someone would want to make that election but maybe there are reasons.   ‎February 1, 2026 8:28 AM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!! I've been going over this a dozen times and couldn't figure out why Schedule A was correct but line 12e ON THE 1040 was using the Standard Deduction. I had chosen to use the larger figure but the form defaulted to the lower figure somehow. It was a nearly $3K owed difference. THANK YOU!!!!!!   The online instructions about changing back and forth from Itemized to Standard are not applicable to what we see on the screen in the Desktop version of TT.   PS I had to uncheck that box twice and click CLOSE at the bottom of the page, then run through the beginning sections a couple more times to get the change to "take."    THIS IS DEFINATELY A GLITCH FOR TT DELUXE 2025. ‎February 7, 2026 9:05 PM
