The IRS and state tax agencies are processing large quantities of filed returns, which may cause a delay of several days for payment processing.   Please note that the IRS or state agencies might debit your payment after the actual deadline, and banks may require additional time to post these transactions to your account.   You won't incur late payment penalties provided that your return or extension was filed by Apr 15, 2026 and your chosen payment date was on or before that same day.   If a debit doesn't appear in your account within 7 to 10 days of your return being accepted, you should contact IRS e-file Payment Services at 888-353-4537 or reach out to your state tax agency. If duplicate payments were received by the IRS, you must contact them directly to request a refund. Creating an IRS Individual Online Account is often the most efficient way to manage your tax information.    Taxpayers with a valid SSN or ITIN can use this portal to:   Monitor balance due and review payment history. Organize, schedule, or cancel payments. Access tax transcripts and digital notices. Establish or view existing payment plans. Verify and save bank account details for future use. Review data from previous returns, such as AGI. Electronically sign authorizations and power of attorney documents from tax professionals.

Initially filed MFS, amended to file as MFJ instead, spouse has not filed MFS or at all for 2025 as of yet. There is no prompt to "fix my return", no error message aside from a received email indicating it should be fixed by entering spouse's AGI/IPPIN (no assigned IP pin). What's the deal? Is the software not capable of recognizing the rejected amended return so it's not prompting any "fix"?

When you are filing an amended return (either Federal or state), part of the reconciliation at the end of the process is to enter information about any refunds you have already received or payments you have already made.  That way those amounts are taken into account when determining the overall refund or balance due from filing the amended return.   @Tez67

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS releases your refund.    Your refund could be offset. The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts.  You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.    The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.   Here are a few FAQs to help you track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? How do I track my state refund? Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"? Why do some refunds take longer than others? What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

When you file your return, in the personal info section, it asks can anyone claim you as a dependent on their return?  You will need to check that box and then when asked if they did say yes to that question as well.     To get there select Personal info>>edit then continue through until you get to the dependent questions.

Yes, if you are sure you are getting a Federal refund, there is no penalty for a late Federal return.  Penalties are based on tax due, and with a refund, there is no tax due.  People have up to 3 years to claim a Federal refund before the statute of limitations.   Now that I know this is a joint return, I suspect that on your first efile you entered the same  total 2024 AGI for both of you, which would be correct for the first attempt.     If the TurboTax Fix It mentioned your spouse AGI, then I suspect you got a rejection after the first efile saying that the spouse AGI was incorrect.   Again, I'm having to guess a bit because you haven't provided any rejection error codes which would have given a clue.            So if it said the spouse AGI was wrong, then at that point I would have recommended that your second efile would consist of using the total 2024 AGI for you and an AGI of 0 for the spouse (if it indeed was the spouse AGI that it had not liked.)    That usually solves the problem.  But if I understand correctly, you used the same 2024 total AGI for both of you, so it rejected again.   Exactly what all you did with that autofill stuff is confusing, but in any case, this table summarizes the ways that a married joint return can efile in regard to the 2024 AGI.  These are in the order that I would have tried them.     If the initial rejection error said the spouse AGI was rejected, then the most important refile would be the 2nd attempt shown in the table, which usually solves it.  Have you tried that?? .   Primary taxpayer Secondary taxpayer (spouse) First try 2024 total AGI 2024 total AGI If spouse AGI  rejected, then for second try 2024 total AGI AGI of 0 Third try, but depends on the rejection code AGI of 0 AGI of 0 . If you need to respond again, please state the specific rejection error codes you've been getting.
