Hello I appreciate all this advice. I would rather change his status than mine. However, I am back to my first questions about how to do this in the turbotax desktop software I use. This is what I THINK I am supposed to do (a previous post from an TT expert told me to do this) Start the Amendment Open the exact same tax file you already filed. Go to the Federal Taxes tab (or Personal in some versions). Select Other Tax Situations. Scroll down to Other Tax Forms and select Amend a Return. go to the section that says I need to change my return for a different reason select personal info and dependents I get the personal info summary I see his name and demographic information section. This can be edited. I the section on dependent. I can edit this section. However, it only asks if he has children or financially supports another person. It does not ask if someone can claim him. I do not see where I can make that change to say that I am claiming him. This is my problem. I do not see where I can make that change using the TurboTax software. I hope y'all can help me. This has worried me to a point of a migraine.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:
Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.
Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

You generally do not need to claim "deductions elsewhere" for your two side gigs.To report them correctly you should deduct the specific business mileage on each corresponding Schedule C. Make sure you don't double count your miles. You should keep a daily record of your miles driven and for what purpose.
Also, you can separately track your parking and tolls for each business and report them in the respective expense sections on their respective Schedule C's.

Unfortunately, “downgrading” won’t change the fact that the charge still goes through for Premium, which is absolutely fraudulent. I submitted my payment last night with a TurboTax representative on the line with me (who was very helpful by the way) under “Deluxe,” which is the product I use every year. She was live and sharing a screen with me so she could see in real time that the fees were at Deluxe level, with the name of the product written clear as day BUT as soon as I clicked submit for my credit card payment to go through, the numbers were at Premium and at the point PAYMENT WAS TAKEN. What an awful feeling! She had me hold so she could talk to management and returned to the line, letting me know she would be able to send a link for a refund request. The link was broken so I had to call again and the second link sent did work. HOWEVER, I WAS DENIED THE REFUND within a couple of hours. This is absolutely the biggest scam, and I understand how a company does so well when it is stealing money from every American filing. This is unacceptable.

To apply for a credit for foreign taxes paid or accrued during the year:
1. From the Federal section of TurboTax, go to the Deductions and Credits section
2. Find Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
3. Choose Foreign Taxes
4. Indicate that you paid foreign taxes or have credits from prior years
5. Work through the section until you see an option to take a deduction or credit, the credit is usually better
6. Complete the rest of the section

Things you can try are:
Select Resend verification code to request another code.
Make sure you leave the TurboTax window open, as closing it will invalidate the code.
Open another tab or window or use a different browser to check your email for the code.
If you're using a mobile device, it's okay to open your email app or another tab in your browser. Just keep TurboTax open in the background and return when you've got your code.
If you still have issues, you can contact us.

No. A qualified domestic relations order would be when the court orders you to split the 401k with your ex-spouse. You can't use that exception to pay for the divorce process. You could claim the penalty exception for "emergency personal expense" on up to $1000 of withdrawals, the rest will be subject to tax and the full penalty.

Yes, it can. The following will explain how the amount of social security income taxable amount is included. At your income level, it's likely that 85% will be included which is the maximum allowed.
When will some social security income become taxable?
if half of your social security, combined with your other taxable income is below the following base amounts, then none of your social security would count as taxable income.
The base amount for your filing status is:
$25,000 if you're single, head of household, or qualifying surviving spouse,
$25,000 if you're married filing separately and lived apart from your spouse for the entire year,
$32,000 if you're married filing jointly,
$0 if you're married filing separately and lived with your spouse at any time during the tax year.

@user17762690865 A few other people had this issue too. Their solution was that the two letter code "NC" had to be entered in box 15 of that particular 1099-R form. Go back and edit that 1099-R to make sure NC is in box 15 on that form.....and that you did select Bailey Settlement on the follow-up page.
