Thanks.  I confirmed "II" was not listed after "HH" in the initial drop down set.  To solve the issue, I was able to bypass the first screen by responding with a blank 12a.  The next screen prompts for 12a to be filled in.  For some reason that drop down is more inclusive and "II" is included.  It seems the user interface needs updating so both drop downs match!  Thanks again.

Hello, I filed 2024 taxes with incorrect HSA contribution amount and have not amended it yet. I also had excess contribution of $1656 that I need to fix for my 2024/2025 taxes. I don’t have a HDHP after 2024, and have not incurred any HSA expenses.   Should I amend my 2024 first, and then contact my HSA plan administrator to do a distribution withdraw? Should this be a normal or an excess contribution withdrawal? Would I pay the 6% on the carryover from 2024 into 2025, and 6% and/or 20% penalty for 2026 taxes on the excess amount for 2025 taxes?   I would like to get this resolved and not have to deal with continuous future carryovers, even if I have to pay the penalty + taxes. I am planning to do a filing extension for 2025 to have more time to fix this issue. Thanks! - Steven

In TurboTax, you do not need to manually enter the deduction for Social Security benefits into the Colorado state section. Instead, the information flows automatically from your Federal return. For the 2025 tax year, Colorado has expanded these rules to allow more residents to fully deduct their benefits.   During the Colorado interview, you will reach a section titled "Subtractions from Income" or "Pension and Annuity Income Exclusion".  TurboTax will display a summary of the Social Security amount that was taxed on your federal return and show it being excluded (subtracted) from your Colorado income.
Effectivement très frustrant que la version dites DE LUXE en ligne n’offre pas les options de voir les formulaires et annexes alors que la version bureau le permet.
Your information flows from your federal return to the state return.  The software will follow the tax laws of your state.     CO does tax Social Security, so you can expect to be taxed.

Because New Jersey tax law has very specific rules regarding IRAs vs. Qualified Plans (like a 403b), the software runs a standard "check" for both spouses on a joint return to see if any retirement income needs to be adjusted for state purposes.  TurboTax uses a generic "Rollover" screen for the state of New Jersey. Even though the 1099-R was entered under your wife's name in the Federal section, the state interview "sweeps" the entire return. It asks about you ("ME") first simply because you are listed as the primary taxpayer on the return, then it asks about her.   Since you did not have a rollover, the amount shown should be $0. Answer the questions as they apply to your (lack of) transaction—usually, this means just clicking through or confirming $0.
Reporting that the form 1120 (or basically the first 6 pages), will not print as a pdf or when ready to file by mail.

@skideckel    <<To arrive at this number, you combine your mother’s original half of the purchase price ($5,000) >>   Assuming not a community property state, your mother's half would also include half the cost of improvements from the date of original purchase through 2017 and ALL the cost of imrprovments from 2017 onward.    if a community property state, your mother's half would include ALL the cost of improvements from 2017 forward and NONE of the improvement prior to 2017.

Paying your fees does not file your return.  Go all the way through the steps of the FILE section to a big orange button that says "Transmit my returns now" and click that button to e-file.   When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted  or rejected your federal e-file.  If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.

My children, who are full time students, have income over the threshold.  From what I can tell, I have to file separate 1040's for them. In the interview so far for my return, I have them as dependents based on the questions asked so far.  Where in do I enter info that will trigger form 8615 to be created so that on my form it is designated that they are filing separately?  Or, is there some other method of doing that?  Searching on "child income" and filling out that part, doesn't trigger creation of the form.  I also have an imported 1099 from a UTMA account (that is part of my logon at a broker and imported automatically when I imported my account) for them that I believe I have to delete?  I have desktop home and business (not listed as an option).

Not sure what the context is for your question.   If you are asking what to enter for 2024 AGI---choose the option that says you did not file a 2024 return or use zero.   If you are asking how to file a 2024 return now in 2026:   You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     https://www.irs.gov/refunds   Refunds for tax years 2021 or earlier have been forfeited and will not be paid to you even if shown on the tax return form.  But if you owe tax due, you will still have to pay, and you will be billed later for the interest and penalties owed.  TurboTax will not calculate the penalties or  interest.   That will be done by the IRS/state after they receive your return with your payment of the tax due as shown on the tax form(s).       When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
