It's best to transfer your .tax2024 file into TurboTax 2025, not the PDF file.  You can search your computer for a .tax024 data file.  The default location where TurboTax saves a tax file is Documents > TurboTax.  You may have a backup file there (with a 'tilde' sign) that you can transfer to 2025.   Or, you can open TurboTax 2024 and re-save your file to your desktop.  When you start a new return in TurboTax 2025, browse to that file to transfer.   @Tax628

When I go to Foreign Tax credit, it automatically gives credit for Foreign tax credit for dividends on 1099 Div and 1099 B. when it asks "Tell us about your Foreign taxes" I select None of this apply so it takes away 1099 Div credit which is very small. which I want so, so far good but  I have sold apartment in India and try to go to to next screen to go to Passive Income but  it again brings 1099 Div and 1099 B and wants me to select mutual funds My capital gain on property sale is high and I want form 1116 to be generated for property gain first so I can file electronically.   The extension gives you until October 15, 2026, to file your taxes without getting a failure to file penalty.  You don't get extra time to pay your taxes so you must pay any taxes that you may have that are due by April 15, 2026, so you won't be assessed the failure to pay penalty.   Refer to the TurboTax Help article How do I file an IRS tax extension? or instructions.
