From TT's Unsupported Calculations: If there is passive category income that is treated as general category income because it is high taxed (HTKO), you must read the IRS Form 1116 instructions for line i and lines 2-5 and 13 on how to enter this income and the related foreign tax. Amounts automatically calculated on these lines must be overridden. The demo is limited to using the standard deduction.

"the "taxable amount" in box 2a should be listed as "taxable" on line 5b on the 1040!" If direct rollovers paid to the traditional and Roth IRAs were scheduled to be made at the same time, the taxpayer is permitted to select how the pre-tax portion is allocated between the traditional and Roth accounts. TurboTax cannot automatically split the rollovers without the additional information from the taxpayer indicating how to split the gross amount and the taxable amount between the rollovers. TurboTax obtains this additional information by requiring the user to enter each of the rollovers as a separate Form 1099-R. This is not a bug, it's a design choice intended to avoid an overly complicated user interface that would serve to confuse most users because most user's code-G Forms 1099-R report rollovers only to a single destination. Your suggestion that a distribution split between traditional and Roth accounts should be taxable to the extent shown in box 2a of the Form 1099-R, doesn't make any sense. The only reason that I can see where it would be beneficial to roll any of the after-tax portion over to the traditional IRA is if you expected the traditional IRA to lose value between the time of the rollover and the time the funds are distributed from the traditional IRA, but then why would you invest in something in the traditional IRA that you expected to lose value. It doesn't make sense to invest in a traditional IRA in a way that you expect would cause the traditional IRA to lose value.

Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.
Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

After you enter the Form 1099-MISC you will see questions used to determine how the income is treated. When asked, you need to indicate that you did not have a profit motive for the income, it was not associated with your main job and you only received the income in the current year. That way the income will not be treated as self-employment income and the Schedule C will not be created.

Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?
Remember, an extension gives you more time to prepare your taxes, but it doesn't extend the time to pay your taxes. If you have an indication that you will owe taxes, you should make the payment by the original due date of the tax return to avoid additional interest and penalties.

The income and expenses as an independent contractor will be reported on Schedule C which is part of your overall tax return. This also means you will be subject to the 15.3% SE Tax. If you did not pay Self Employment (SE) Taxes in 2025, and if you plan to do this again in 2026, it may be a good idea to make estimated quarterly payments to avoid penalties.

No. The PA child tax credit is less than the federal credit. It is between $600 for one child to a maximum of $2,100 for two children. It is based on income.
