That's only true if the 1099-Q is paid directly to the dependent student (i.e., the student must claim the taxable $2223.54 portion on their taxes). However, if the 1099-Q is paid directly to the parent/account owner then they can report the $2223.54 as additional tax on their form and claim the full $4000 AOC ($2500 in tax credits). Although, doing it this way you still get the "We'll make this entry zero..." message during the Federal Review, but just ignore it to maximize your tax refund.

Capital loss carryovers don't appear directly in the Wages & Income summary section in TurboTax Online because they are handled under the Investment Income area, specifically in the Capital Loss Carryover section. To see or enter your capital loss carryover: 1. Go to Wages & Income. 2. Scroll to the Investment Income section. 3. Select Start or Update next to Capital Loss Carryover. 4. Enter your carryover details there. The software applies the capital loss carryover automatically to offset gains where applicable, but it won’t show as a standalone item in the Wages & Income summary. If you transferred from last year’s return using the same TurboTax account, your carryover should be entered automatically. If not, you can enter it manually in this section

I will have three separate worksheets for ordinary business income, other net rental income, and Section 1231 gain/loss. My question is: for the remaining K-1 boxes such as distributions, AMT adjustments, excess business interest expense, business interest expense, and UBTI — which worksheet do they belong on? Do they all go on the ordinary business income worksheet, or do they need to be allocated across all three worksheets?"

If you are e-filing (Electronically Filing) your 2025 tax return you do not physically sign the tax return in ink. You enter the 2024 AGI from your 2024 federal tax return Form 1040 Line 11 for your electronic signature.
If you want to view/print your complete return you must pay the TurboTax account fees before filing.
To pay the TurboTax online account fees by credit card, without completing the 2025 return at this time, click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Pay Now. Complete the credit card section and click on Confirm payment.
However, you can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

If you are not deducting any expenses related to your car this year, you should remove it from your return. Follow these steps:

Select the vehicle section
Edit your vehicle
Mark that you converted it to personal use on the first day of the year.

If the software refuses to "select" the higher table amount despite you clicking it, try this:
Go to the Sales Tax section.
Choose "Enter actual sales tax paid" instead of the table.
Manually enter the amount that the table should have given you (or $1 more than your State Income Tax).
This often "forces" the logic to trigger the higher deduction without waiting for a software patch.

For sports bettors who employ arbitrage betting to capitalize on favorable line differences among legal sportsbooks, I am curious if there is leeway for using the session method to treat these bets as a single session. Here’s an example to illustrate this approach. During a game, you bet $100 on team A to win on Sportsbook A and, seconds later, bet $100 on team B to win on Sportsbook B. The bettor has bet both possible outcomes with total wagers amounting to $200. For simplicity, let's say the odds on both were +110 at the time the bets were placed. No matter the outcome the bettor will win $210, netting a profit of $10. The bets are placed within seconds on the two books with the explicit goal of capitalizing on the mismatched lines. To clarify, arbitrage betting is unlikely to trigger a W-2G or any tax statement from a legal sportsbook like Fanduel or DraftKings so all winnings from arbitrage betting are going to be reported as other income. Unlike casino games, I know that IRS guidance has been that each sports bet is its own session and you cannot net your bets. However, this guidance is relatively old and hasn't quite caught up with the realities of legalized, mobile sports betting where arbitrage opportunities like the example above occur regularly. Assuming the bettor keeps detailed, meticulous records (including time placed) and can provide evidence of the bets placed on both sides of an outcome, is using the session method an option? The impact on AGI is potentially huge if employing the session method vs. treating each bet as a single session. The net profit for the bettor would be unchanged but high volume arbitrage bettors could retain credits and deductions that phase out as your AGI increases (ex. the increased SALT deduction starts to phase out with AGI >$500,000). Thanks for any guidance you can offer!

In Turbotax Deluxe this year, there is no way I can see to manually enter capital losses without a 1099B. There is no where that I can enter manually. I skipped the import but it still asks me for bank or brokerage. I'm trying to report manually private shares I invested in with private startups. I was able to do this in prior years with TurboTax Delux
